what should i feed my skinny ferret?
i have a boy and girl ferret. Jupiter is the boy and Rosie is the girl. Jupiter is the right size but Rosie is pretty skinny. I feed them store bought ferret food. I want rosie to at least gain a little weight because it scares my to see how skinny she is. I tried to give them ferretvite but they wouldn’t eat it. They wont eat chopped up ham or chicken. I don’t want to feed them raw food because its expensive. What type of dry food should i feed them and am i feeding them bad stuff. What should i do or try.
Also my ferrets are about two years old
I have to agree with the last poster. Good ferret food is usually the same price as a raw diet. And “good” equals something like evo/innova or the like. You can supplement with meat based (something along the order of gerber stage 2) meat based baby foods (no entrees). Ham is NOT good to feed, it’s too sodium-laden. Regular pork is better, and most ferrets do like pork (it’s a very light tasting meat, much like turkey). However, kibble fed ferrets are much pickier, and won’t usually understand that actual meat is food.
Ferrets are stubborn, and it does take more than just offering the new food for a ferret to try it. Use the scruff and stuff method – grasp the ferret by the loose neck skin behind their heads, wait til they yawn and then pop a bit of the food into their mouths for a taste. Once or twice is generally all it takes before they’re willing to try a bit on their own.
ferret fatty high on ferret vite!
